The last few weeks I have had the opportunity to take Shout and Shriek out on individual Mommy daughter dates. They were a blast.
I took Shriek to see Mary Poppins to say she loved it was an understatement. She was so good! when intermission came I asked her why she was being so good she said so matter of factly. “Mom, it is because I am being entertained!” We got treats and enjoyed talking to eachother. She is getting so grown up.
Shout and I got to see a prescreening of Dolphin Tale. I loved that it was just her and me. Popcorn and an overpriced icee were involved. Shout can be a little wiggly during movies so I was a tad nervous. She was a champ and loved the story. It was a great family movie. So inspring and adorable. I loved listening to her later explain the movie to the Umpire it was priceless.
Here are a few tips that I learned through taking my girls on Mommy daughter Dates.
- Schedule both dates somewhat close together so the child that is staying home knows she will have some alone time with you in the coming weeks.
- Schedule activities that you know each child will like. It does not have to be the same thing. Just as each child is different.
- Don’t worry about spending the exact same money or making them both the same amount exciting. I really try not to play the compare game and teach my kids they will each have different opportunities in there lives.
- Make each child feel special. Put away the iphone (thats so hard for me and I need to do better, a lot better!) Listen to what they have to say. I always laugh at the cute stories my daughters tell me.
Do you have any tips for successful Mommy daughter dates? I would love some input.
*I received free tickets for Both Mary Poppins and A Dolphins Tale but was not required to blog about my opinion of either show.
